This statement explains what we've done, what standard we're working towards, and how to tell us if something isn't working for you.
Our accessibility standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. This is the standard most commonly used to measure web accessibility and the one referenced in UK public sector accessibility regulations, even though this site is privately operated and not subject to those specific regulations.
What we've built in
Every calculator on this site is built with semantic HTML form elements with proper labels, so screen readers correctly announce each input field; full keyboard navigation, so every input, button, and result can be reached and operated without a mouse; visible focus indicators, so keyboard users can see where they are on the page; sufficient colour contrast between text and background, including in result displays; and descriptive alt text on diagrams and illustrative images, such as the worked-example graphics on our calculator pages.
Specific considerations for calculator forms
Calculators are interactive forms, which raise accessibility questions a static page doesn't.
We've specifically addressed clear error messaging when an input is invalid (for example, a percentage entered outside 0–100), rather than relying on colour alone to indicate an error; results that update in a way assistive technology can announce, rather than silently changing on screen; and a layout that works at different zoom levels and screen sizes without losing functionality.
Known limitations
We're not aware of any parts of this site that fall short of WCAG 2.2 AA at the time of writing, but accessibility is an ongoing process, not a one-time fix, and new features are tested before launch rather than assumed to be compliant. If you find an issue, the feedback route below is the fastest way to get it fixed.
Reporting an accessibility issue
If you experience any difficulty using a calculator on this site because of a disability, please contact us at [Contact Email] with the page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead. We aim to respond within [response time, e.g., 5 working days] and will prioritise fixes that block someone from completing a calculation entirely.
Compatibility
This Site is built and tested to work with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge) and common screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver). It does not require any browser plugins. If you're using older or less common assistive technology and run into a problem, please let us know; see the contact details above.
How this relates to our other policies
This statement covers the accessibility of the site's design and functionality specifically. For how we handle the data you enter (including into accessible forms), see our Privacy Policy. For the general terms governing your use of the Site, see our Terms of Use.
